Relaxed Performances

We at Broadstone Pantomime are keen to ensure that our productions are accessible to all, and to that end, we have added a ‘Relaxed Performance’ to our run. We trialled this back in 2020 (our last season before Covid hit) and it was such a success that we are making this a permanent addition to our show run.

So what is a ‘Relaxed Performance’?

A relaxed performance is a show which has been adapted to suit people who might require a more relaxed environment when going to the theatre. Usually, these are adults or children with learning difficulties, autism or sensory communication disorders.

People with conditions like these can find standard theatre performances overwhelming or unpleasant. Common triggers are darkness, loud music, sudden noises and a generally unfamiliar environment in which you’re expected to sit still and quiet for a long time.

To make our production more accessible to people who might struggle with these aspects, we have made one of our shows slightly different… technical changes have been made to the performance – including quieter music, reduced loud or surprising sound effects and no use of strobe lighting.

The atmosphere is exactly that – relaxed! The house lights aren’t turned off, just slightly dimmed. We also welcome audience members moving about freely within the seating area, and invite them to step out to the foyer should they need a break.

Seating for this performance is not structured, wheelchairs and seats are placed where needed so attendees do not feel they are confined to a seat nor too close to others they may not know. Carers are provided a complimentary ticket alongside a paying attendee.

If you have any further questions regarding this performance please do contact us and we will do our best to help and accommodate.
